Critical Mass Auckland

The July Critical Mass happened on the 25th. Thanks to much better weather than last month numbers were back around the 40-50 mark. There was a great atmosphere on the ride, which meandered through the CBD, K'rd, Ponsonby and eventually Britiomart. 6 months since the ride started up in Auckland and there has been no negative reaction from authorities, which is a lot more than can be said about the ride in New York...

The next Critical Mass is happening on the 29th of August. Meet in Albert Park (by the fountain) at 5:30pm. Hopefully the weather improves before then.

Despite what the whole '.org.nz' thing may have you thinking, CRITICAL MASS IS NOT AN ORGANISATION; Critical Mass is a spontaneous, leaderless bicycle ride that occurs on the last Friday of every month in almost every major city in the world. It is regarded by many participants as celebrations of self-powered transportation as opposed to a protest or organised demonstration.

The purpose of critical Mass is not formalised beyond the direct action of meeting at a set location and time and travelling en masse through the city streets. While the original ride in San Francisco started to draw attention to how unfriendly the city was to cyclists, the leaderless structure of Critical Mass makes it impossible to assign it one specific goal.
